A brief recollection of the Shawano Cinema from Curt Hoffman

"All of my life I have wanted to own my own business, I worked at a factory in Green Bay named Tosca Ltd. In the winter I was laid off from work. To pass the time I decided to get into the trucking business with my brothers. My first thought of owning my own business was to purchase a truck and join the business with my brothers. While driving though, one night I decided it just wasn't for me, yet still wanted to own my own business of some kind. I am a native of Shawano and thought how great it would be to open up a business there, but was wondering what is it that Shawano is lacking? While driving semi through small towns I often stopped at movie theaters when I had time to waste. It then came to me... Shawano needed a movie theater. The more I researched the movie theater business the more interested I became, so after two years of planning I built The Shawano Cinema in September of 1989. It began as a two-plex and is now Shawano Cinema IV and The Moonlight Outdoor Theater."

The General Lee an actual reserve stunt car from the classic televisions series Dukes of Hazzard heated up the parking lot on opening weekend for The Dukes of Hazzard movie. Docs Harley Davidson displayed the car to patrons, and quite possibly left a few tire marks.

A giant green ogre and Princess Fiona graced the Shawano Cinema and surrounding areas. Shrek and Fiona smiled, shook hands, and took pictures while welcoming patrons to the theatre. Shrek and Fiona could also be spotted through out Shawano advertising their movie, and greeting children with delicious suckers.
